Kay ET-220 Spectrum 1968/69

Kay ET220 Spectrum - made in 1968/69 when Japanese KAWAI held the Teisco del Ray/Kay brand for a short while. OK - so when I was a kid they were selling these in Woolworths! But Eric Clapton learnt the ropes on one, so they had a great place in guitar history! This one is actually in lovely condition for its age and plays fine. It has a small scratch on front left only and the metallic silver on the pickups is flaking - but this all adds character. The guitar sounds rather nice played - refreshing reminder of that late 60's / early 70's tone. Very easy action. All parts are the original but, like many of its kind, the whammy bar is missing - the effect can still be played with the heel of the hand instead. We have cleaned it up and tested it to know it works and sounds fine but we didn't put it through our workshop. We recommend using a good quality guitar lead and if you have a valve amp, all the better. We tested it on a Fender Hot Rod that we have for sale here in the shop. All in all, a little piece of guitar history in its own way but still a nice guitar to learn on, collect or play. Sold as seen in good faith.
